Abi Dare“The result of the renovation is a relaxed, comfortable and functional family home with quiet, considered interiors that celebrate the 18th-century building, its unique story and its location, hidden away among the fields”

Working within the existing footprint, we reimagined this vaulted former cowshed as a serene family home, balancing clean modern lines with subtle references to its agricultural heritage.
We commissioned bespoke units for the kitchen and pantry, their blackened oak-veneer fronts contrasting beautifully with the gnarled trusses and exposed stone walls. A sawn-oak floor and limewash paint enhance the tactile, organic feel.
Connected to the kitchen yet defined by a partial wall and a change in level, the dining area features a custom-made oak table and cushioned bench seat, creating a sociable and relaxed mood that’s perfectly suited to family life. A newly added panoramic window opens up views over the garden to the fields beyond.
Accessed via an oak staircase, the loft above the dining area is now a calm bedroom. A soft linen curtain separates it from the adjacent snug, forming a versatile space that can be opened up or closed off as needed.
Handcrafted details, including crochet pendant lights and an elegant iron handrail forged by local artisans, add texture and character throughout. A trough sink in the bathroom provides another gentle nod to the building’s former use.
The result is a home that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in its history, balancing architectural clarity with warmth, texture and character.
